With impressions directly into the material image
D2024-03 / 22.04. – 26.04.2024 / 5 days / CHF 780.-
From our different life situations and joys, which we experience daily, we let ourselves be inspired. From these senses and impressions, from sketchbook or photographically captured impressions, we draw our personal and very own power and skillfully translate them into distinctive material images. In this workshop we will open up the free spaces that we can fill together – like a journey of discovery – with different interpretations.
With my support, you will dive into the complexity and open up your own soul landscape through the generous use of color and materials, through skillful development of compositions and the elaboration of accents and forms. Away from previous constraints, guidelines and limitations, we live out our current state of mind, impressions, emotions, desires and ideas on the canvas.
This workshop is aimed at beginners as well as advanced students who want to use their creative potential and expand their craft and design repertoire.
What next? – Finishing (paint pictures ready)

Who doesn’t know them – the works that are never quite finished! When is a painting finished? This big question occupies all painters again and again. But doubts and uncertainties can often be solved more pleasantly by looking at and discussing the work in a small group.
How can different forms or color areas be connected to grow into a large, well-done composition? Which parts of the picture gain new expressive power through targeted reduction or even omission? Which color combinations, which ‘eye-catcher’ bring additional tension or even decisive depth and attention to the picture?
Together we will work out different possibilities and techniques for the completion of your prepared and brought pictures (we will not start any new works in this workshop). In the process, we will deepen our knowledge of image composition and composition.
The ‘Finisher-Workshop’ is aimed at advanced and painting students who have working experience with acrylics or who may have already taken a course with Robert Süess (not mandatory).
Mixed media – magic of the material

Together we work step by step on the construction of authentic material images. We process unusual materials on canvas, collage, paint over, reduce. The breadth of materials that can be used is very large and versatile. Thus, we can already decide on the desired expressiveness in the new picture when selecting the material. Through the condensation of numerous contrasting layers, the multi-dimensional image with depth is created with patient work.
With my support, your own instinct and a lot of courage to experiment, we develop a personal visual language. The goal is for you to learn to handle the new techniques confidently, to work out your picture compositions courageously and to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of creative expression. You will work out generous coating and painting processes self-confidently and learn to deal with the new techniques in material painting.
This course is aimed at all interested parties who are open to new ways.
Let go and become free

Free and detached from representational formal language, we transfer our current dreams, emotions, feelings and ideas into abstract statements on the canvas. In this course I will gradually introduce you to a detached and free way of working – away from previous constraints, guidelines and limitations. Various new techniques will be complemented by your per-sonal impulsiveness. You will practice the impulsive gesture that gives a painting its expressiveness and reveals the freedom of the painter. With collages, the beauty of colors and skilful material effects, you will learn to create new impressive works.
We experience with the intensive discarding and overpainting of ‘half-finished compositions’ only the creative journey of discovery with surprising pleasure in the unexpected, a new personal result, an own painterly handwriting.
This workshop is aimed at both beginners and advanced students who want to use their mental creative potential open to new ways.
Let emotions become visible

Creativity is always a step into the unknown. The central theme of this course is the inspiring and motivated work and conversion from one’s own lively world of emotions and ideas into the current picture. It is about the courageous development of powerful impressions in generous layers, new possibilities of expression of moods and the reflection of natural life processes in concrete material and spatial references.
You will practice the impulsive gesture that gives a painting its expressive power and reveals the freedom of the painter. You will experience experimentally as well as expressively a new creative and pictorial process, which will lead you further into your artistic handwriting. Together we will create surfaces with depth in several steps, before we condense the pictorial expression in dialogue with the world of color, reduce it and bring it to an expressive finish.
This course is for anyone interested who is open to new ways of doing things.

Build up – fill in – rediscover

How do colors change through the superimposition of material surfaces? How is the impression of surface effect and image depth created? How do form overlaps, ambiguous structures and tension of the planes arise? Through the courageous development of generous layers, new possibilities of expression and the reflection of the ‘magic of the material’ in different work processes, we experience the physicality of the picture.
In dialogue with the color we process unusual materials with patient work to different structural levels and thus create a multi-dimensional picture with depth. We condense the expression of the picture and interlink several layers of painting in numerous work processes. You will be gifted with an exciting image statement that allows you to discover fascinating structures and develop artistic concepts.
This workshop is aimed at beginners as well as advanced students who would like to expand their handicraft and creative repertoire.
